We all want to do something concrete to help in the wake of the disastrous earthquake in Haiti. For today, the most effective thing we can do is send money. Presbyterians are already on the ground in Haiti through groups like the PDA.
PDA is rushing an initial $100,000 from One Great Hour of Sharing and designated funds to help provide immediate emergency relief to the affected people. Funds are being sent through our ecumenical and local partners working in Haiti.
Several congregations in the Presbytery have missional relationships in Haiti and the neighboring Dominican Republic. They are currently assessing the situation and will let us know how we can best contribute to the relief effort in the weeks to come.
For now, sending money to relief agencies that are geared up and actively engaged is our most effective response.
We will be updating this page with our Presbytery-wide responses to the crisis. Please feel free to contribute ideas from your church's own response strategy.
