OCTOBER 12-22, 2010
PEACE * CHRISTIANITY * SUSTAINABILITY
Join us in Japan as we embark upon a unique study of peace as defined by world history and personal perspective; learn how Christianity exists within a Buddhist, Shinto, and Confucian society; and how Christianity is viewed in Japan today. Stay a bit longer to collaborate with leaders from developing countries at the Asian Rural Institute. Here, we will learn about sustainable agriculture and explore leadership skills that will help both developed and marginalized communities in Asia & Africa.
Over an 11 day period with an optional 6 day extension to the Asia Rural Institute (ARI), we will travel from Osaka to the two cities of peace: Hiroshima and Nagasaki. While in Nagasaki, we will explore the back roads of the Island of Kyushu as we go back to the time when the spiritual journey of a Christian was one of extreme ups and downs, persecution and hiding. Along the way we will experience the tranquil scenery, sample Japanese cuisine and immerse in its rich ancient culture.
For those willing to extend their trip and want a volunteer experience, we will head an hour north of Tokyo to ARI to join in a study of sustainable agriculture and leadership.
