Sammamish Worship Director In National Singing Competition

Seattle Presbytery

From Brennan Baglio, Interim Director of Worship at Sammamish PC:

Recently my a cappella group, Groove For Thought, was one of ten singing groups selected in the nation to perform on Season Two of NBC's "The Sing-Off," a TV competition similar to American Idol for a cappella groups.  The experience was a blast.  I've been singing with Groove For Thought, a Seattle based performing group, for roughly four years.  We've done some tours to Europe and the east coast, but national television was a whole new experience for us.

We essentially lived in hotel rooms in LA for the month of August while taping the show, rehearsed like crazy, and hung out with some amazing people.  The whole show-biz thing was pretty wild, but more striking and memorable about the whole experience was interacting with so many amazing singers and musicians.  Just doing music 24/7 is kind of a musician's dream, and to do it with some of the best singers is the country is even better.  Being in that environment was not only fun, but challenging and inspiring as well.

One group in particular was inspiring on multiple levels.  Committed, who wound up winning the competition, is a group of six gospel singers from Alabama.  Not only are they insanely talented, but these guys are Seventh-Day Adventist and so they took every Saturday off.  While we were all working to prep for the next episode taping, these guys were taking the day off because they were that committed to their faith.  It was personally so encouraging and inspiring to see a group of people who love music and are hoping to win this competition to make it, but they're doing it because they want to share their gospel music (and its message) with the world.  Throughout the whole show, they remained dedicated to their faith.

The whole experience was truly unforgettable.  Now home, back to work, the group is busier than ever, with gig requests rolling in left and right.  It's all very exciting, and I just feel blessed to have been a part of this experience with so many great people.
