Prayers for the Crisis in the Arab World - Capitol Hill PC

Seattle Presbytery

Please join Capitol Hill PC as they host a prayer service for our brothers and sisters in the Arab world,

March 2nd at 7pm

A Call to Prayer.

We are in the midst of a once in a generation time of change. All across the Arab world in North Africa and the Middle East, Arabs, both Christian and Muslim, are joining together to demand better government. And wonder of wonders, totalitarian regimes are threatened. Some have fallen, some are fighting hard to stay in power, others are making preemptive strikes to keep protests from forming.

This service of prayer will be an open time for worship, confession, thanksgiving and prayers of supplication for the people of the Arab world.  We will hear from local Christian leaders from North Africa and the Middle East. There will be time for everyone gathered to offer their hopes, their petitions, their prayers. While this will be a Christian worship service, people of all faiths are welcomed to join and pray.

How should American Christians be praying for the Arab peoples right now?

PEACE: Pray that the unrest will not escalate into war, and that God will establish peace and righteousness in the Arab nations with no more bloodshed.

PROTECTION: Pray for the protection of Christians in these Arab countries (both nationals and expats), that they will not be tempted to “run” when things get hard. Pray that the Christian population in the Middle East and North Africa will not diminish further because of these events.

PATIENCE: Change takes time. Pray for patience for the Arab people, for a fair and peaceful election, and for new governments that will recognize religious freedom and human rights.

NEW LEADERSHIP: Pray for the future leadership of these countries. With the change in regimes, the door will be open to all political and religious ideologies, extremists and fundamentalists included. Pray for leaders who will win the respect of the people and unify the nations.

PROMISE: Remind God of His promise for all the nations. The Lord has established all the nations of the earth to display his glory. Tyranny and corruption opposes God’s good intentions for all people. In this time of change, no human has the wisdom to know how to chart the future for these nations. No group of people has the strength to establish this vision of reform. Together in humility and hope, let’s pray to the God of all creation to establish his good purposes for the Arab world. Let’s make history together.
