Loren Mead describes Herb O’Driscoll as “the best preacher and the best teacher of preachers I know.” An Episcopal priest, Herb taught for many years at the College of Preachers at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. CLN is very excited to have this gifted and fun teacher coming to Seattle for this workshop.
Advent is an important -- but challenging -- season for the preacher. While people are eager to sing Christmas carols and move on to the manger and Bethlehem, Advent raises somewhat different, but important, themes without which Christian faith is sometimes reduced to sentimentality.
O’Driscoll will help participants look at Advent as a season and its theological and artistic themes. Then he will lead us in a close look at the lessons for each Sunday of Advent 2012.
This workshop, open to interested laity, will be especially helpful to preachers who want to enter this Advent with clarity, intentionality and fresh perspective on familiar texts of Scripture.
