12/1: Verge 2012 with Tod Bolsinger

Seattle Presbytery

Tod will focus on transformational leadership, also called "adaptive" leadership (see below for a link to his 90-second video).  This kind of leadership is most effective when the solutions of the past don't fit the challenges of the present. When small groups, contemporary worship, a snappier mission statement, better teaching and fellowship, restructured committees, or changing staff doesn't cut it for today's mission in our communities. Transformational leadership says we're going to learn together how to follow Jesus deeper into God's mission and it's absolutely dependent on the leaders' own ongoing transformation through Christ.

It's the kind of leadership where we've been canoeing effectively upstream for over a thousand miles (like Lewis and Clark did up the Mississippi) and now all our canoeing savvy is not gonna get us across the Rocky Mountains, but that's where we need to go. Come and VERGE with Tod Bolsinger as he engages us in Canoeing the Mountains: Becoming Leaders for Uncharted Territory.

Tod addresses "transformational leadership" in this 90-second video which you can use to introduce VERGE to your leadership teams & congregations.

Rev. Tod Bolsinger has been the Senior Pastor of San Clemente Presbyterian Church in San Clemente, CA since 1997. He earned a Ph.D. in Theology and Master of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary. He teaches seminary classes, speaks on leadership issues and is the author of two books, It Takes a Church to Raise a Christian, and Show Time.

He loves hanging out with his wife of 23 years, Beth, laughing with his teenage kids, Brooks and Ali, barbecuing meat, drinking coffee, planning and taking adventures, looking for real estate he can't afford, and rooting for the Angels baseball team.

He reads avidly; hikes gleefully, runs slowly, races triathlons occasionally; skis almost recklessly; fly-fishes enthusiastically; surfs awkwardly; and golfs VERY rarely. If he hadn't taken biology after lunch in high school, he would have been a National Park Ranger. When he retires, he is going to be a ski host who puts four people on every quad chair lift.
