The Oso Relief Committee of the Northwest Coast Presbytery is planning to hold two one-day retreats entitled Caring for the Caregiver on September 4 and 6 at Camp Brotherhood near Mt. Vernon. Each retreat will offer the same program, designed to help volunteers and various responders deal with the emotional after-effects of the Hwy 530/Oso Slide. The facilitators will be a national team from Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, all trained counselors with experience in disaster response and the emotional impact it can have on volunteers and workers later.
Participants will spend a day at the camp relaxing and learning to take care of their emotional health during or after a crisis. There is no cost, meals will be provided, and attendees can spend the night before at the camp if they choose. Rooms are double-occupancy and linens are provided. Each day’s program will be held between 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM.
There are still openings for both days, and the events will give church members a chance to witness a Presbyterian Disaster Assistance team at work. The retreats are open to others as space is available.
