Special invitation for SeaPres pastors:
Romans 8 reminds us that we are sheep right for slaughter but are still more than conquerors. The magnitude of the moments we are called to pastor can produce feelings of helplessness and hopelessness, more reminiscent of sheep and not conquerors. Pandemic and protests evidence the ongoing impact of race and racism embodied in the United Stated and American Christianity. Pastors experience this in a variety of ways. How do pastors who lack a lived experience as a person of color form a theological and ministry response that heals and reconciles?
Historically, Christians have come together in times like these to discern the scriptures as a community, and to theologically wrestle and confirm the work of the Holy Spirit in the Church and World. In that same thread, we invite you to a “for-pastors-only” Zoom call. Seattle Presbytery staff will act as host and facilitator for dialogue and development of thoughts and ideas towards racial equity, healing, and justice. We all understand there is a need for lay leaders and congregants as well. Yet, we continue to hear from pastors across denominational lines the need for pastors as a community of practice, to be a think tank within safe but challenging space. Spaces like this can be hard to find and equally difficult to sustain. Yet, the story of Christian witness is that we discern the times and wrestle theologically as a ministry community.
