God’s desire for us as His beloved ones is to grow in spiritual freedom. We are spiritually free when we are growing in our awareness of God’s love and acceptance; when we know who we are, with all of our gifts and our limitations. We are better able to discern God’s presence, find more meaning in our lives, and make choices that flow from who we are, whatever circumstances we find ourselves in. Keeping God at the center of our lives allows us to discern God’s call in our present situation and to respond generously to that call. Our preoccupations can get in the way of hearing and responding to God and may create chaos in our souls, leading us to make poor choices.
At this retreat, we will reflect on several passages of Scripture, pondering what leads us into spiritual freedom. In prayer, we will seek God’s guidance about “disordered loves” in our lives that may push God out of the center of our lives and rob us of the joy, freedom, and hope that God invites us into.
