Dear Supporters and Faith Community Friends:
From the beginning of the year, SHARE and WHEEL have been calling for 500 new shelter beds in Seattle. Seattle has a higher number of unsheltered homeless people per capita than any other city in the country. Without shelter people die. This year, WHEEL Women in Black have stood for 246 people in King County who died unsheltered or by violence. They will name them all in a candlelight Winter Solstice Vigil this Sunday, December 21st. An invitation to this Women in Black Solstice event is attached and you are invited!
To further our call for 500, we held a Shelter Summit in February, a Shelter Rally in September, and a Faith Summit for Shelter in October. Each generated enthusiasm and ideas. We haven't yet achieved 500 new shelter beds in Seattle.
We invite the faith community of Seattle to join us in a second Faith Summit. We know from experience that many faith organizations have the desire and resources to help homeless people and often just don't know how. We think that if we come together we can find more ways to work together.
Our Second Faith Summit for Shelter, January 22nd will be from 1-3 pm at Northminster Presbyterian Church. Please join us at 12:30 for a light lunch. Tours of the Northminster Shelter will be available during the summit, and lots of information about hosting a shelter.
When the holidays have ended times will become even more difficult for our homeless neighbors. The generosity that comes with the season fades, but the need does not. Come together with us to continue the warmth.

SHARE and WHEEL—grassroots organizations led by homeless and formerly homeless people—invite Seattle's faith community to work with us to shelter more of the homeless people of Seattle. Many faith organizations have the desire and resources to help and just need more information to do it. Join us and our Northminster Presbyterian Shelter Host for a second Faith Shelter Summit to share information, collaborate and create new resources. Refreshments provided!
