December SeaPres Update from Co-Executive Presbyters
Seattle Presbytery
Dear friends,
Advent greetings as we journey together toward the celebration of our Savior’s birth.
Between atmospheric rivers, the return to standard time (and those 3:00 p.m. sunsets), and the broader unease felt across our nation, it can seem at times as though darkness is pressing in. Yet with the lighting of each Advent candle, we are reminded that the light of Christ draws ever nearer—casting out the darkness and offering hope amid uncertainty and despair.
Throughout this past year, our presbytery has faced challenges with faithful resolve. We give thanks for all those who serve on our many leadership councils—the Executive Board, the Commission on Ministry, the Commission on Preparation for Ministry, and other committees and task forces—whose dedication continues to strengthen the ministry and mission of our churches and the well-being of our communities. Through grants supporting pastoral sabbaticals, capital improvements, and vital feeding ministries, we remain committed to partnering with our congregations as they serve their neighbors and bear witness to the Gospel wherever they are planted.
As we move into the new year, we are excited to introduce the newly developed Thriving Grants, which will be available to all congregations. More information about the grants, the broader Thriving Initiative, and the presbytery’s goals can be found on our website.
Also launching in the new year is part one of our podcast series focused on Ruling Elder preparation. These recordings are intended as a helpful resource both for those newly called to serve on session and for experienced ruling elders seeking a refresher. The series addresses both polity essentials and best practices.
As the year draws to a close, let us continue to hold one another in prayer—praying for those facing health challenges, for congregations in times of transition, for neighbors experiencing heightened vulnerability, and for all who long for Christ’s return and the healing of human brokenness.
We look forward with gratitude and hope to our shared ministry together in 2026.
In peace and grace,
Revs. Eliana Maxim & Scott Lumsden
