Invitation from Newport PC:

Newport PC is delighted to share this year's Meekhof lecture speaker, Rev. Alex Patchin McNeill, Executive Director of More Light Presbyterians.

This year's talks will be hosted on Zoom and are free and open to all.  Click here to register your attendance and receive the Zoom details.

Young people's views of gender beyond a binary presents a sea change to the way we understand our identity, community, and theology. The ways youth understand and live into their gender offer rich ground for new ways of being for the Church, if we recognize their wisdom. Together we will explore where binary understandings of gender and sexuality came from and the harm they have caused in our understanding of ourselves and of God. We will investigate what ways have our practices of ministry been limited by binary approaches, and how we might shift our ministries beyond a binary towards a vision of an abundant God.

During his tenure at More Light, Alex has equipped congregations to live into policy change for inclusion of LGBTQIA+ people and has successfully enacted policies for marriage equality in the Presbyterian Church (USA). He is the first openly transgender man ordained as a Minister of the Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (USA). Alex lives in Asheville, NC with his spouse and their three dogs.

This lecture series seeks to honor the memory of Doreen B. Meekhof  by a continued expression of her love for the people of Newport Presbyterian Church through attention to these three interests: education in the faith, social witness and action, and worship. Learn more here.
